Why a Section Edelweiss ? Section Edelweiss of VFB was formed on October 13, 2000, in Obergestelen, Canton of Valais, in the Lärch restaurant, as a section independent from any territory. Membership in Section Edelweiss is not bound to a specific territory of the section – e.g. conditioned upon the residency of the member. It is the only section of VFB which is independent from any territory and that means that it is an ideal solution for all persons who want to support the goals of the Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway but who do not want to be assigned as member to one of the existing regional sections. There are 12 sections in Switzerland, 9 in Germany, 1 in The Netherlands and 1 in Belgium. Incidentally, the flower Edelweiss connects with high mountains… Edelweiss is the ideal section for members from abroad, in particular from the Anglo-American part of the world. Whenever possible, communication with members takes place electronically, to save time and expenses. Correspondence is in German or English. Kurt Baasch, president
